Physical damage (from animals, falling branches, human kicks, garden hoses, weed whackers, etc.) cannot be predicted, but stainless-steel nameplates are much, much sturdier than zinc or aluminum. Outside of physical damage, stainless steel markers will likely outlive the plant and because the laser print in within the metal itself, it won't fade.
Copper markers *will* patina if left untreated and can experience a bit shorter lifespan.
We expect our UV acrylic labels to last a minimum of 5 years.

It is important to understand that no metal is completely rust-proof and we cannot guarantee they will never corrode. When properly cared for, your markers will last a lifetime but the use of preventative protective measures is encouraged.
Routine Cleaning: Clean your garden markers as needed through the growing season to remove dirt, debris, pollen, and any potential contaminants from the nameplates. In most cases this can be accomplished by simply rinsing your markers with a gentle spray of water from a garden hose as you water your plants. For stubborn grime or hard water deposits, you may use a soft cloth or sponge and a mild soap solution to gently wipe down the surface of the markers.
Avoid Abrasive Cleaners: Please do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or metal brushes on stainless steel surfaces as they will scratch or damage the finish.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals bleach, ammonia-based cleaners, or rust removers on your stainless steel garden markers as they can cause discoloration or damage to the metal and markings.
Inspect Regularly: Periodically inspect your garden markers for any signs of damage or corrosion and address issues promptly to prevent further deterioration. If you notice corrosion that appears to be rust, it could be free-iron particles, dirt, or a residue that has contaminated the surface. Clean the nameplate as indicated above and apply a rust-inhibitor if signs of corrosion are present.
Monitor Outdoor Conditions: Be mindful of environmental factors such as exposure to salt air, acidic soil, or extreme weather conditions, as these can affect the longevity of your markers. Consider applying additional protective measures to the nameplates.

Oxygen and water are enemies of stainless-steel. Because of this, we reccomend you apply an oil-based stainless steel cleaner and polish to the nameplates to maintain luster and water repellency on a seasonal basis.
As an extra preventative for your investment, we recommend applying a rust inhibitor spray once a year.
All of our premium arched markers ship with a coating of Renaissance Wax Polish hand applied to the nameplate for the ultimate protection and beauty.
Other protective steps include applying a light coat of a high-quality marine wax, micro-crystalline wax polish, or a clear coating designed for stainless steel.
